Supportive care in oncology is specialized and personalized care for patients undergoing cancer treatment. It is designed to manage the adverse effects of cancer and cancer treatments by preemptively and comprehensively managing the physical, psychological, and psychosocial needs of the patient.
Through supportive care, our goal is to improve the quality of life of our patients by preventing and treating symptoms of cancer and the side effects of traditional cancer treatment. Care focuses on pain management and alleviating symptoms such as shortness of breath, nausea and vomiting, gastrointestinal issues, fatigue, insomnia, loss of appetite, loss of weight, anxiety and depression.
Psychosocial support includes patient and family education and counseling, advanced care planning, patient advocacy, identification, connection and coordination with community resources from diagnosis through post-treatment and survivorship.
The MediSys Health Network is committed to implementing a supportive approach to oncology treatment that promises to improve communication between the patient and their healthcare providers, while preventing and reducing treatment toxicity and easing the emotional burden on patients and their caregivers through psychosocial support for both patients and their families.
